Privacy Policy

Sketchy is built with your privacy in mind. We do not collect, store, or share any personal data. Everything stays on your device.

What We Collect

Sketchy collects no personal information. We do not require account creation, sign-in, or any form of registration.

The following data is generated locally and stored only on your device:

• Quiz scores and category stats
• Skill level progression
• App preferences (dark/light mode, etc.)

This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server. We do not operate any servers or backend infrastructure of our own.

Location

Sketchy requests access to your device's precise location for two features:

• Local weather - your coordinates are sent to open-meteo.com to fetch current weather conditions. Open-Meteo may temporarily log your IP address for server maintenance and abuse-prevention purposes; this IP is not linked to your identity and their logs are purged after 90 days.
• Nearby skate spots - your coordinates are sent to overpass-api.de (OpenStreetMap data) to find skate parks and spots near you. As with any internet request, your IP address is visible to this service.

Location is only accessed while the app is in the foreground and only for the features above. Your location is never stored by Sketchy and is never sent to our own servers. Location permission is optional - if denied, weather and nearby-spots features will be unavailable but all other features continue to work normally.

Motion and Sensors

Sketchy uses your device's accelerometer to detect shake gestures, which triggers the dice roll feature. Motion data is processed entirely on-device and is never recorded or transmitted.

Third-Party Services

Sketchy communicates with the following external services. As with any internet request, these services receive your IP address as part of the connection. We have no control over their privacy practices - please refer to their own policies for details:

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) - weather data. Privacy policy
• OpenStreetMap / Overpass API (openstreetmap.org) - skate spot map data. Privacy policy
• Logo.dev (logo.dev) - brand logo images in the Culture section. When a logo is fetched, the brand domain name and your IP address are sent to Logo.dev's servers. Privacy policy
• SkateVideoSite.com - the Culture section includes a built-in browser that loads this third-party website. When you use this feature, SkateVideoSite.com's own privacy practices apply, including any cookies or tracking that website may set. We have no control over the content or data practices of that site.

Analytics and Advertising

Sketchy contains no advertising of any kind.

We use PostHog (posthog.com) for anonymous, opt-out usage analytics. This helps us understand which features are used and improve the app. The following events are captured:

• Dice rolls (trick name, player count, whether triggered by shake)
• Quiz starts, answers, and completions (category, score)
• Warmup routine starts, completions, and abandonments
• Firing line generation (obstacle count, difficulty)
• Skill level progression (tricks toggled, levels unlocked)
• Feature card taps (which section was opened)

No personally identifiable information is attached to these events. PostHog assigns a random anonymous device ID - no name, email, or account is ever linked. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the app's Settings. PostHog privacy policy

Children's Privacy

Sketchy does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where required by local law). The app requires no registration and transmits no personal information to us. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.

Data Retention and Deletion

All app data (quiz scores, progression, preferences) is stored locally on your device. You can delete it at any time by uninstalling the app. We hold no data on any server that could be deleted remotely.

Your Rights (GDPR and UK GDPR)

Because Sketchy does not collect or store personal data on any server, there is no personal data held by us for you to access, rectify, or erase. If you have questions about data held by the third-party services listed above, please contact those services directly using the privacy policy links provided.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change how data is handled in a meaningful way, this page will be updated and the date above will reflect that change.
